OUR BELIEFS

We Want You To:

KNOW

We believe in one holy, loving, and Sovereign God, eternally existing in three persons: the everlasting Father; His one and only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and the Holy Spirit, who are of one substance, equal in power and glory, and who are worthy of the same worship, love, confidence, and obedience.

We believe that God has manifested Himself and His truth in the created order, in the Scriptures, and ultimately in Jesus Christ. We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors.

We believe in the full humanity and deity of our Lord Jesus Christ who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe He lived a sinless life. We believe in His miracles, in His substitutionary, and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His present ministry for His people as Lord of all, High Priest, and Advocate. Salvation comes only through placing ones faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, and receiving his righteousness in place of our sinfulness.

GROW

The Bible is the Word of God, which is fully truthful and the only infallible guide in faith and practice. It is the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all it teaches, obeyed in all it requires, and trusted in all it promises. Through the Word of God, the Holy Spirit works to transform both our character and our life to conform to the image of Christ.

AND GO

We believe the responsibility of Christ’s people in this world is to be God’s redeemed community, embodying His love by worshiping God with praise, prayer, and confession; by proclaiming the gospel of God’s redemptive love through the Lord Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth by word and deed; by caring for all of God’s creation and actively seeking the good of everyone; by living out the realities of the Christian faith with care for one another; and by showing compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed.

PASTOR, DR. S. SCOTT LINGINFELTER WELCOMES YOU

SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY

Senior adults are a strong and vitally important part of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. We have an active Senior Adult Group that is open to anyone who wishes to participate.  The group meets monthly for fellowship building and fun.  Some months we gather in the Fellowship Hall for lunch and board games.  Other activities are traveling to nearby restaurants for meals and sightseeing or shopping.  There are picnics at nearby locations with food and entertainment. Sometimes there will be chili or bean luncheons in the Fellowship Hall with a guest speaker or musician.  Usually there are sightseeing trips for fall colors and Christmas decorations.

Mount Carmel offers a Wednesday daytime prayer meeting and Bible study at the church that is open to anyone but is popular with many of our senior adults. Our Senior Adult Director leads the Bible Study.  Occasionally the Bible study will be moved to a park or picnic area and include a picnic lunch that day.  Both the monthly activities and the Bible Study are designed to build stronger relationships with each other and with our Lord.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Our youth ministry follows our church vision statement of Know, Grow and Go!

We are committed to knowing God, growing in our understanding of who He is and going into the world to help others do the same. We have two main opportunities each week to open God’s Word together and get to know Him and grow in our relationship with Him. One is a small group on Sunday mornings at 9:30 and the other is Wednesday evenings at 6:30. We realize that our world is hurting in many ways and that people are looking for answers to the many problems of today.  We believe that the only real help and hope for these challenges and problems is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We get to know God and grow in our relationship with Him by gathering together each week for Bible study and prayer. We also encourage our youth to spend time with God on and a daily basis through personally reading and applying God’s Word to their lives.

We also provide many opportunities for our youth to be active in living out their faith. We encourage our youth to carry out the great commission found in Matthew 28:18-20, which is to go into all the world to make Jesus known to all peoples. We do this by being intentional about planning opportunities for our students to serve in their church and community. We also provide opportunities for them to go beyond their comfort zones of home and local communities to share the hope of Jesus with those in other parts of the country with opportunities through missions trips and serving in various ways.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Mount Carmel Baptist Church is committed to the spiritual growth and development of our children.  Each Sunday morning we offer a Bible study that helps children become more familiar with the Bible and develops their skills in using their Bibles.  They have a Bible lesson each week that teaches an important Bible truth and then uses fun-filled games and crafts related to the lesson to reinforce the Bible truth that they are learning.  We also have Vacation Bible School each summer that is an intensive week long Bible study that includes crafts, games, food, and singing.

Mount Carmel also provides periodic opportunities for children to develop fellowship among the group and with their leaders. Such opportunities may include such activities as swim parties, trips to caves and other local attractions, picnics, kite-flying, and scarecrow building.  They are involved in a church-wide “trunk or treat” near Halloween each year. The heart and core of all children’s ministries at Mount Carmel is helping children to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and to learn to love and serve Him.

OUR PASTOR

Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Carson-Newman College, a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He married the love of his life, Christa in 1997, and they have 3 children, Elijah, Lydia, and Caleb.  We are privileged to have a leader that stands on the truths of the Bible and honored to have him as pastor since 2004.  Scott wears boots to preach in and occasionally wears two different colored boots accidentally!  He enjoys hunting and fishing and living in Tennessee.  He is passionate about the Bible and only slightly less passionate about barbecue.  We invite you to join us in worship and get to know him.
